Big Rock Pool Challenge - Firestone Bay
Big Rock Pool Challenge!
Free monthly BioBlitz Battle, offering people of all ages and abilities a fun, competitive way to engage in rock pooling and explore the marine life of the area.
Firestone Bay is a part of the Plymouth Sound National Marine Park and sits within the Plymouth Sound & Tamar Estuaries Marine Protected Area, recognised for its rich biodiversity and multiple designations for protected habitats and species. It's position next to the historic, Grade II listed Royal William Yard, proximity to the Devil's Point Peninsular - home to a range of notable plant species and a geological SSSI for Devonian limestones, makes Firestone Bay well worth the visit! It is a popular swimming spot all year round and if you're lucky you can often spot Sammy the seal from shore!
The gazebo will be set up on the beach (down the steps), to the left of the slipway.
Firestone Bay is part of a Grade II listed site and as such accessibility can be challenging. The beach is accessible by a set of steps (with railing) or by a stepped slope on the other side of the Artillery tower.
