GETTING TO ROYAL WILLIAM YARD - AN UPDATE
Posted on: 20 Apr 2026
Royal William Yard is open and welcoming visitors as normal. All of our restaurants, shops, and businesses are ready to receive you, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Due to a local emergency, there are currently some temporary road closures and traffic disruptions in the Stonehouse area, which may affect journey times to the Yard.
Plymouth City Council and its partners are actively managing the situation and working to restore normal access as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we want to make sure getting here is as straightforward as it can be.
By car
Vehicle access to Royal William Yard remains available. A temporary diversion route is in place through Stonehouse, and additional signage is in position to guide drivers through the affected area.
Delays are possible, particularly at peak times, so please allow extra time for your journey. If you have appointments or reservations for a specific time, please leave plenty of time to get here.
By bus
Bus services to Royal William Yard are temporarily suspended while Plymouth City Council works with Citybus on a safe and practical solution. We hope to have an update on this shortly.
By ferry
A great alternative - and a wonderful way to arrive - is the ferry service. It's a scenic and stress-free option that completely avoids the road disruption, and well worth considering for your visit.
Take a look here for routes and timetables.
On foot
Pedestrian access to Royal William Yard is unaffected. It is about a 30 minutes walk from the City Centre. If you are walking the South West Coast Path, you can continue to do so!
We appreciate your patience and understanding, and we look forward to welcoming you to the Yard.
