Wimbledon on the lawn

Part of a jam-packed calendar of events for July

Tennis fans are invited catch all the Wimbledon action live on the open-air big screen at Royal William Yard from 3rd to 16th July. The perfect setting, spectators can watch the renowned British tournament on the Yard’s green – formerly a lawn tennis court – while relaxing in deckchairs in the summer sunshine.

Bringing the Wimbledon vibe to the popular waterfront destination, the quintessential combination of Pimm’s and strawberries & cream will all be available. For those keen to enjoy a bite to eat in front of the action unfolding on screen, scan the QR codes on display on the green to peruse and order from the Yard’s restaurants. The wide range of eateries will offer everything from British classics like fish and chips to a broad variety of global cuisine.

Independent winebar, Le Vignoble, will have the best of British on offer, with English sparkling wines, strawberries & cream. Steel Brew Co will serve refreshing beverages from its horsebox bar, and Bistrot Pierre will serve a variety of spritzers, cocktails and mocktails from a pop-up bar.

In addition to the tennis, Royal William Yard has a whole host of activity lined up for the month ahead, including:

  • RWY Good Food and Craft Market - Sunday 2nd July - (10am – 3pm). With stalls covering The Green, this leading local market boasts the best food, drink, crafts and creations from the region’s finest traders.
  • Yard Sessions - Friday 7th July (5.30 – 8pm, Firestone Arch). In the scenic surrounds of Firestone Bay, relax with local musical talent - Andy Quick and Matt George - with a drink in your hand as the sun goes down. For those travelling from Cornwall, the Cremyll ferry will collect passengers directly from RWY Marina after Yard Sessions has finished.
  • RNLI Event - Sunday 9th July (10am-3pm) in Melville Courtyard. Join the RNLI for a day of family fun and fundraising, featuring the RNLI, Dartmoor Search and Rescue, Devon & Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service, Devon & Cornwall Police dive team, the Coast Guard and many other brilliant and brave organisations. There will be live sea rescue demonstrations to watch, activities taking place site-wide, and plenty to see and do.
  • Drakes Island Swim 2023 - Sunday 23rd July. The swim starts on the beach at Firestone Bay with swimmers setting out for the Island, round a marker buoy and making their way back to the beach a distance of around 1.5km, all in aid of the Chestnut Appeal charity.
  • Yard Sessions - Friday 28th July - (5.30 – 8pm, Firestone Arch). Sundowners at sunset, with great music and vibes. The George Corner Quartet will play a selection of infectious groove and funk instrumental tunes. For those travelling from Cornwall, the Cremyll ferry will collect passengers directly from RWY Marina after Yard Sessions has finished.
