Good news for the South West Coast Path at Royal William Yard – repairs are taking place to a section of the path that runs around the perimeter of the Yard, to preserve and protect this beloved stretch of the UK's longest National Trail for the future.

Work will begin on Monday 26th January on the section of boardwalk that runs from the right of the main entrance to the Yard and wraps around the Slaughterhouse building. All businesses and the South West Coast Path itself remains open as normal, and a short diversion will be in place during the works.

These repairs will safeguard this section of the 630-mile South West Coast Path for the walkers, visitors and coastal communities who enjoy it. The project is expected to take around 4-6 weeks for a specialist team to complete, depending on weather and tides.

A construction compound will be set up outside Royal William Yard, near the boardwalk entrance. This may result in limited access to the water while works are ongoing, and there will be some noise disruption during daytime working hours. Work won't take place at weekends, and contractor vehicles will be parked within the compound area without blocking roads or bus stop access.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the works, and we're grateful for your patience while we carry out this important maintenance. If you have any questions about the boardwalk repairs, please visit the Welcome Suite.
