Coastal Clean Up

Make a splash for conservation this February half-term at a community beach clean event in the heart of Plymouth Sound National Marine Park.

The cleanup, scheduled for Tuesday 18th February from 1:30-3:30pm, will take place at Firestone Bay near Royal William Yard. This volunteer effort combines heritage preservation with vital marine conservation work.

Plymouth Sound National Marine Park Ranger team will be leading the event. Participants will conduct a litter survey as part of the Marine Conservation Society's BeachWatch program, with data directly supporting campaigns that have already achieved significant environmental victories, including the UK carrier bag charge and microbead bans.

The two-hour session welcomes volunteers of all experience levels, and participants will gain insights into the challenges facing marine environments. The organisers will provide refreshments after the cleanup, making it a perfect half-term activity for families and individuals alike.

Participants should wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear (walking boots or wellies recommended) and bring a mobile phone. The event will be based at Firestone Bay beach (PL1 3RS), easily located using What3Words: gear.crowd.facing.

While the event is free to join, space is limited and advance booking is essential. In case of severe weather, the event may be subject to cancellation with 24 hours' notice.
