Royal William Yard Festival organisers have released details to help people travelling to the event and Yard residents have the best possible time.

The much-anticipated festival will feature performances in six musical areas from artists including Soul II Soul’s Jazzie B, Sounds of the Sirens, Seth Lakeman, Molotov Jukebox, Band of HM Royal Marines, Full Intention, Richard Earnshaw and many more - in the stunning surroundings of Grade 1 listed Royal William Yard.

1. What's the best way to get to the festival? How will traffic problems be managed?

Make the most of your day and arrive by bike, boat, bus and foot. Due to the high volume of visitors to the festival, parking will fill up very quickly, so we’ve made special arrangements with Citybus and our ferry operators to offer as many alternatives as possible, including a park and ride from Home Park and the Civic Centre, discounted buses and a double ferry service from commercial wharf. CityBus, our transport partner are putting on extra services on the 34 route at the discounted fare of £1. The Festival organisers are subsidising additional ferry services from Commercial Wharf in the Barbican. An additional secure cycle parking compound also will be in place for the festival.

2. Will parking be available on site?

Yes but this is very much limited and will be allocated on a ‘first come first served’ basis. We will be increasing the number of disabled spaces available during the Festival but this will reduce normal parking spaces. An area of parking will be reserved for residents who don’t have allowed parking spaces.

3. What time does the festival run to at night?

The festival will be finishing the six areas of music at various stages throughout the day. The Acoustic stage will close at 16:00 each day with the Blues & Jazz concluding at 17:00. The Harbour Maritime stage will finish at 19:00 daily whilst both the Sundeck and Sundowner areas will end at sunset, approximately 20:30. The Factory Cooperage will be the only stage open until 22:00. This area has been chosen for the later entertainment as the sound is contained within the courtyard. Our team will monitor noise levels throughout performances, we have specifically chosen hi-tech PA systems which reduce the volume required by using multiple smaller speaker stacks rather than a large one.

4. Will food and alcohol be sold by suppliers other than Yard retailers/tenants?

Our very own Wildwood, Wagamamas, Las Iguanas ad Seco Lounge will be getting into the festival serving up food and refreshments. Le Vignoble, Victuals and Le Bistro Pierre will be the perfect spots to take in the carnival atmosphere on the Green, where ID Fashion can offer some retail therapy during your day out. On the Green itself, and in Factory Cooperage we’ll have a host of extra bars and food trucks - including Pastry Club, the Jazzy Chefs, the Gin & Bubble Bullet bar and V is for Veggies. These vendors have been chosen for the quality of their offer and all efforts have been made to avoid direct competition with tenant businesses. Our award-winning Wagamama, Las Iguanas, Prezzo, will also offer delicious sustenance for the day. Visitors can also explore Ocean Studios, situated in the Factory Cooperage building, where the gallery space will be hosting a special ‘Made in Plymouth’ exhibition in association with Plymouth College of Art and where a new market-style shop will be open retailing locally produced food and drink.

5. How will litter be managed?

Devon Contract Waste have sponsored their own service for the event and will be in attendance the entire weekend ensuring the site is kept clean and litter-free. The Yard team will have additional litter pickers on all weekend.

6. How will safety and security be managed?

A thorough and sensible event plan is in place after liaising with licensing, police, fire regulations and Event Safety Action Group . Coast 2 Coast security will be supplying their staff to help regulate and control the event, they are all SiA accredited and have significant experience in managing this type of event.

7. Will a limit be put on numbers of attendees?

Yes - numbers will be closely controlled. The event has been designed to have a natural reduction in the number of attendees throughout the days as stages are closed throughout the afternoon/ evening.

8. Will there be loud anti-social rock music?

No. The music programme is well balanced offering something for all music lovers.

9. Can we bring kids?

Yes, the festival is very family friendly, with a creche provided for those who wish to watch a band or wander for a few hours without kids.
