5 Reasons why Yard Session can help you relax this summer

There’s an old saying “Prevention is better than a cure” which is something that is certainly the truth when it comes to stress. It’s no lie that everyone experiences stress in their day to day life so what can you do to unwind this summer? We think we have the answer for you.

Every Friday starting the 17th of June from 5-7pm on the green we will be hosting Yard sessions, a select list of local talented musicians will host an evening of live music whilst Rockets and Rascals will be tantalising our taste buds with a Great British style BBQ and Le Vignoble will be providing refreshments.

Music helps you to unwind
Well with that said, it all depends what type of music. I’m pretty sure the sort of music that you head bang too certainly won’t, unless that is your kind of thing. But according to Psych Central “[music] has a unique link to our emotions, so can be an extremely effective stress management tool. Listening to music can have a tremendously relaxing effect on our minds and bodies, especially slow, quiet classical music. This type of music can have a beneficial effect on our physiological functions, slowing the pulse and heart rate, lowering blood pressure, and decreasing the levels of stress hormones”. So after a stressful week why not pull up a deck chair and listen to some live music. I don’t know about anyone else but there’s just something a bit special about live music and acoustic music that makes it even more soothing.

Food
Who likes doing the dishes? I know I certainly don’t. I hate that feeling you get after devouring a delicious meal and all you can think about is the pile of dishes by the sink. Definitely the last thing I want to do when I’m trying to relax, which is why dining alfresco with a BBQ that someone else has cooked has to be the best option to your relaxing evening. I mean who doesn’t love a Great British BBQ and disposable cutlery? Makes you feel like a student all over again.

Relishing the outdoors
I know I am biased but I really do think were the lucky ones. Living in a city surrounded by so many gorgeous locations I think we forget to take the time to really appreciate what we have on our doorstep. When you’re on holiday you make the most of the weather and enjoy your evenings so why don’t we when were at home? We find any excuse we can, too much house work, got to cook tea, blah blah blah. Fresh air is really relaxing and can help us to breathe, you may even be with a crowd of people but a problem shared is a problem halved and your washing can’t reply to you can it?

Good company
It’s no lie that friendships can be stressful. According to WebMD “your buddies can be a source of stress… Friends can cause more stress than others because we care so much about them”. Some are almost as hard as relationships and whilst juggling a job and or studies it can be really difficult to maintain these important relationships. So whether you use Yard Sessions as a chance to get together and unwind or use it as a starting point for your evening, bring a friend and a blanket or pull up a deck chair and start your weekend off with some great food and wine and most importantly good company.

Being by the sea
Ever taken a trip to the seaside and slept really well later that evening? Well it’s all to do with the fresh sea air. According to Aqua for Balance “sea air is full of healthy negative hydrogen ions-charged particles… These negative ions help balance levels of serotonin a body chemical associated with mood and stress. That is why a day at the beach leaves you feeling not only more alert and energised, but also deeply relaxed and able to rest more soundly.” This sounds great to me! Nothing worse than lying in bed at night trying to find that comfy spot that just doesn’t seem to want to be found. Why not join us for Yard Sessions to help you unwind by the sea for the perfect start to your weekend.

If you’re still in doubt and those reasons haven’t quite sold it to you yet, you can see the full line up of all our talented local musicians and preview some of their music below.
