Meet Rob from Bistrot Pierre

Back in 2013, French restaurant Bistrot Pierre opened its doors here at the Yard; fast forward five years and the group has expanded across the country, bringing authentic French cuisine to restaurants from Torquay to Southport and has announced that it will be opening the Yard’s first ever hotel; Rooms by Bistrot Pierre. Founder Rob Beacham tells us more…

Hi Rob! Start by telling us why you first came to the Yard?

It was an obvious location for us; there was a lot of buzz around what the area would become after the redevelopment. We got off to a great start with our aim of producing honest, authentic food and great customer service – creating a dining experience customers would remember. The monthly farmers market and programme of events have now brought even more people to our door.

So, tell us why you decided to open Rooms by Bistrot Pierre?

We recognised that the visitor market in Plymouth was a growing market and, having experience in the hotel industry already – with our boutique B&B in Ilkley – we were confident that we could create something regular diners would enjoy, as well as those who were unfamiliar with Bistrot Pierre. Through discussions with Urban Splash, we developed a concept that would revive and highlight the beautiful Georgian features at the Yard. We’re well experienced in transforming historic buildings within local communities and are proud to have the opportunity to do so at the Yard. We know our customers enjoy travelling and new experiences, so this project was the perfect opportunity to offer something other than food to help feed their passions.

There’s so much going on here so we’re delighted to be able to provide somewhere for people to stay and enjoy all of the events taking place – as well as enjoy our food in-bistrot.

What can we expect?

There will be 14 stylish yet simply appointed bedrooms in a beautiful Grade II Listed building which was formerly the Admirals House.

We’ve worked with renowned Yard architect Jackie Gillespie – who has designed a number of our bistrots - taking inspiration not only from what we’ve already created, but from the building itself. We’re really excited to bring something unique to the Yard and truly believe that it will be the place to stay.
